PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
Hydropower Industry Overview: The hydropower industry focuses on utilizing water flow (kinetic energy) or water stored at a height (potential energy) to generate electricity. Hydro turbine generator units are the backbone of this industry, converting water's energy into mechanical and electrical energy for industrial, commercial, and residential use. Given the growing global emphasis on renewable energy sources, these units are highly sought after for their efficiency, reliability, and sustainability.
Basic Composition of Hydro Turbine Generator Units:
Turbine:
The turbine is the heart of the system, where water flow is converted into mechanical energy. The two primary categories of turbines are:
Reaction Turbines: These are designed for medium to low water heads (typically between 10-300 meters). Popular models like the Francis and Kaplan turbines are used in regions with high water flow but moderate elevation differences, such as rivers and reservoirs.
Impulse Turbines: These are suited for high water heads (greater than 300 meters) with low flow rates. Pelton and Turgo turbines are ideal for mountainous regions where the water flow rate is lower but the drop in elevation is significant.
Generator:
The generator converts the mechanical energy from the turbine into electrical energy. It is typically a synchronous generator connected directly (coaxially) to the turbine shaft. The generator plays a crucial role in determining the overall efficiency and stability of power output.
